Pledge of Non-Violence

Below is the Pledge of Non-Violence that Martin Luther King, Jr. asked those who believed in his message to abide by, as well as his core principles of non-violence.

FCTP respectful repeats the Pledge here and is proud to commit to the following:

1. As you prepare to march meditate on the life and teachings of Jesus.

2. Remember the nonviolent movement seeks justice and reconciliation - not victory.

3. Walk and talk in the manner of love; for God is Love.

4. Pray daily to be used by God that all men and women might be free.

5. Sacrifice personal wishes that all might be free.

6. Observe with friend and foes the ordinary rules of courtesy.

7. Perform regular service for others and the world.

8. Refrain from violence of fist, tongue and heart.

9. Strive to be in good spiritual and bodily health.

10. Follow the directions of the movement leaders and of the captains on demonstrations.

5 Principles of Non-Violence

1. Non-violent resistance is not a method for cowards. It does resist. The nonviolent resister is just as strongly opposed to the evil against which he protests, as is the person who uses violence.

His method is passive or nonaggressive in the sense that he is not physically aggressive toward his opponent, but his mind and emotions are always active, constantly seeking to persuade the opponent that he is mistaken.

This method is passive physically but strongly active spiritually; it is nonaggressive physically but dynamically aggressive spiritually.

2. Nonviolent resistance does not seek to defeat or humiliate the opponent, but to win his friendship and understanding.

The nonviolent resister must often express his protest through non-cooperation. But he realizes that non-cooperation is not the ends itself; it is merely means to awaken a sense of moral shame in the opponent.

3. The attack is directed against forces of evil rather than against persons who are caught in those forces. It is a struggle between justice and injustice, between the forces of light and the forces of darkness.

4. Nonviolent resistance avoids not only external physical violence, but also internal violence of spirit. At the center of non-violence stands the principle of love.

5. Nonviolence is based on the conviction that the universe is on the side of justice.

It is the deep faith in the future that allows a nonviolent resister to accept suffering without retaliation. The nonviolent resister knows that in his struggle for justice, he has a cosmic companionship.

As you prepare to march, meditate on the life and teachings of Jesus.

Do's and Don'ts for Tea Party Activists

As in all human endeavors, this nation-wide Tea Party of ours will have growing pains. Like our Founding Fathers, we must look beyond our lesser differences and stay banded together to protect our liberties and the future of a free America.

Ark. Flag w Tea Bag

Our Tea Party brothers and sisters:

Do not lose your focus; always keep our primary objective FIRST: Saving Our Freedoms

Do not think in terms of a third party. Third party candidates do not win; even Ross Perot (who had the most money of any third party candidate) only ensured an easier win by the Democrat contender.

Do take control within the Republican Party. Remember there are millions of us and very few of them.

Do support your candidate of choice in the primaries -- but remember that politics is not an "all or nothing" game. At least at first, you may only have a choice of voting for the lesser of two evils. Our ultimate aim is to get rid of our Socialist government and career politicians; banish them into political oblivion.

Do keep up the pressure via phones, faxes and e-mails ton your elected officials. Let them know they work for We the People -- or we will find someone new who understands this.

Do "pick the target, freeze it, personalize it and polarize it." (One of Saul Alinsky’s Rules. There's no reason we can’t use it, too.)

Do dismiss the mantra of "who is the leader of the Tea Party movement?" When the time is right We the People will pick our leader. We the People lead this movement and we must all work together.

Do remember the fight is against "the enemy within" -- the career politicians (both Republicans and Democrats) and the current Socialist-leaning government -- not your Tea Party brothers and sisters. Do not lose your focus.

Saul Alinksy's "Rules for Radicals"

Alinsky begins "Rules for Radicals" this way, "What follows is for those who want to change the world from what it is to what they believe it should be. 'The Prince' was written by Machiavelli for the Haves on how to hold power. 'Rules for Radicals' is written for the Have-Nots on how to take it away..."

Outlining his strategy, Alinsky says: "There's another reason for working inside the system.... Any revolutionary change must be preceded by a passive, affirmative, non-challenging attitude toward change among the mass of our people.

"They must feel so frustrated, so defeated, so lost, so futureless in the prevailing system that they are willing to let go of the past and change the future..... The organizer (must) work inside the system, among not only the middle class but the 40% of American families – more than seventy million people – whose income range from $5,000 to $10,000 a year [in 1971]....They will not continue to be relatively passive and slightly challenging. If we fail to communicate with them, if we don't encourage them to form alliances with us, they will move to the right... "

Tactics for Radicals:

Power is not only what you have but what the enemy thinks you have.

Never go outside the experience of your people.

Wherever possible go outside of the experience of the enemy.

Make the enemy live up to their own book of rules.

Ridicule is man's most potent weapon.

A good tactic is one that your people enjoy.

A tactic that drags on too long becomes a drag.

Keep the pressure on. ("Never let a good crisis go to waste.")

The threat is usually more terrifying than the thing itself.

The major premise for tactics is the development of operations that will maintain a constant pressure upon the opposition. Such pressure is necessary, Saul Alinsky said, in order to get reaction from the opposition -- "the action is in the reaction."

If you push a negative hard and deep enough it will break through into its counterside.

The price of a successful attack is a constructive alternative. This is the other side of the previous rule: If one does push the other party through to changing, then one has to offer some kind of solution.

Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.

Vote 'Em Out in 2010!

      We Want our Country Back

Our entire Congress is the most corrupt bunch to ever disgrace our great Nation. And we mean both the House and the Senate and both parties.

In November 2010, all the House of Representatives will stand for re-election -- all 435 of them. One third of the Senate -- 33 of them -- will also be up for for re-election.

We say, "Vote every incumbent out!" And we mean every one of them...no matter their party affiliation.

Let's start all over in the House of Representatives with 435 people who have absolutely no experience in running that body, with no political favors owed to anyone but us, their constituents. Let's get 33 new faces into the Senate. Let's make them understand that they work for us. They are answerable to us and they simply have to run Congress with some common sense.

Two years later, in 2012, vote the next third of the Senate incumbents out of office. We can do the same thing in 2014 and, by that time we will have all new faces there.

We also back term limits on the new bunch -- no exceptions. The longer politicians stay in office, the more power they get, and they love it and will always choose dishonor if it means being re-elected.

Let's get back to the principles our Founding Fathers had in mind: citizens are elected, then leave their daily work and go work in Congress for a set time -- to serve their country -- and then come back home once their duty is done.

Remember our Founding Fathers called upon We the People to oversee the government. They work for us; not the other way around.
